Men's Health

During their 40s, men can develop prostate issues affecting their normal activities of daily living.  Benign prostate hyperplasia is the most common condition.  Increased frequency of urination especially at night, inability to empty the bladder completely and dribbling during urination are the common symptoms. Prostatitis is another condition with similar symptoms. It is the inflammation or swelling of the prostate gland.  Often, there will be irritative or obstructive urinary symptoms along with perineal pain.  Based on the diagnosis and your current health situation, herbs, nutrients or acupuncture may be recommended to address the cause and relieve your symptoms.

Erectile dysfunction is another condition men could experience especially in older men.  It is the inability to achieve or sustain an erection during a sexual intercourse.  There are different causes for erectile dysfunction, from psychological like anxiety, depression, fatigue to physiological causes like low testosterone level, diabetes mellitus, etc., Surely, it is not a topic most men would like to talk about but if the problem persists, it may cause stress, relationship problems and more seriously, affect your self-esteem.  The good news is erectile dysfunction is well-treated using naturopathic medicine.  Acupuncture, ginkgo biloba, fish oil and yohimbe bark are effective treatments but depending on the cause of dysfunction, not all will work in every case. Want to find out which ones work for you, book an appointment with Dr. Cheung.
